Octopus-backed companies win prestigious digital innovation awards

Two portfolio companies featured within the Octopus Titan Venture Capital Trust (VCT) were winners at last night’s Guardian Digital Innovation Awards.

SwiftKey, which enhances typing accuracy on smartphones and tablets, continued its recent winning streak by being awarded Best Startup Business. Serial entrepreneur Alex Chesterman also won an award for the Best Startup CEO for property portal Zoopla. Read more »

Mills & Reeve advises innovation fund on two environmentally friendly investments

Leading national law firm Mills & Reeve has advised the Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF) on two new investments totalling £800,000.

The £500,000 investment in TeraView, one of the world’s leading innovators of 3D imaging using terahertz light radiation, will assist in the development of a system that aims to produce faster results than X-ray as well as being less harmful. In total the investment round raised approximately £3.5 million. Read more »

CamStent’s £500k funding round cornerstoned by £114k investment

Early Stage Cambridge based polymer coatings specialist CamStent has successfully closed an oversubscribed £400k funding round, closing with subscriptions in excess of £500k. The round was cornerstoned by a £114k investment by new and existing LBA shareholders, including an £18k follow on investment by the LBA EIS Roundtable Syndicate Fund 2011. Investor funds have been supplemented by a £250k non-dilutive grant from the Technology Strategy Board. Read more »
